space. Here are some helpful hints to guide you in determining the
right size storage unit for your goods. For additional information

The below chart is for a ceiling height of 8
feet. Typically most furniture like wall units and hutches are only
7 feet. If boxes are packed correctly (full) they can generally
be stacked to a maximum of 5-6 feet. The chart below is a general
guide for planning. Sizes of spaces will vary from space to space.

- Plan your storage space.
- Completely fill each box. Put your heaviest items on the
bottom and the lighter items on top.
- Try to keep your boxes of uniform sizes, so they many be
stacked easier.
- Label all boxes for easy identification.
- Make an inventory of your stored items and keep it in a
safe place.
- Dishes and Glassware should be individually wrapped in packing
paper and placed in a dish pack box. Again place these items
on the top.
- Use 2" X 4" boards or a sheet of Vis-Queen underneath your
storage items to guard against moisture. Concrete floors may
become cold and damp.
- CAUTION: It is against the law to store materials that are
HAZARDOUS or COMBUSTIBLE, such as gas, solvents, paint, etc.
- Pictures and Mirrors should be wrapped in mirror crates
and marked "Fragile" and stacked on end.
- Furniture with drawers can be used as storage space for
knickknacks, china, silverware and small items. Wrap these items
in table clothes, towels or blankets to prevent breakage.
- Larger Appliances make excellent packing cases for linen
and clothing.
- Remove the legs from tables if possible to save space.
- Sofas, Couches, Sleepers, and Loveseats should be covered
with a waterproof cover and stored on end. Remove cushions,
cover in plastic and store on top.
- Upholstered furniture items need a cover to protect from
dust and moisture.
- When storing mattresses on end make sure they are firmly
braced to stand up straight to prevent them from bending out
of shape and becoming "Lumpy".
